Zhangjiajie Hehua International Airport (Chinese: 张家界荷花国际机场) is an airport serving Zhangjiajie, Hunan, People's Republic of China (IATA: DYG, ICAO: ZGDY). The airport is located in Huhua village in Yongding District of Zhangjiajie. It is the second largest airport in Hunan, after Changsha Huanghua Airport, and the only international airport in the Wuling Mountains region.
History Zhangjiajie Hehua International Airport
In 1991 construction started on Dayong Airport, which had its first test flight in December 1993 (Dayong is the former name of Zhangjiajie City).
The airport eventually opened for commercial flights under the name Dayong Zhangjiajie Airport on 18 August 1994. In 1995 it was renamed Zhangjiajie Hehua Airport. In 1999 it served 500,000 passengers annually. In 2011 the first international flight (excluding Macao and Hong Kong) arrived from Seoul's Incheon International Airport. In 2015 the second terminal opened after an 18 months construction period.
Zhangjiajie Hehua International Airport is one of the two international airports in Hunan Province, the airport is surrounded by charming natural scenery. It is 6 kilometers from the city proper and 42 kilometers from Wulingyuan Scenic Area. The airport has been serving well numerous tourists to the Zhangjiajie National Forest Park, the Suoxi Valley Nature Reserve and the Tianzi Mountain Natural Reserve since 1994. When being first built, it was named Dayong Airport, and later was renamed as Hehua Airport. Now it operates flights to many domestic cities like Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Wuhan, Shenzhen, Nanning, Kunming, Xian,Changsha, Chengdu, Chongqing, Lanzhou, Suzhou, Sehnyang,and Nanjing, Hangzhou and several international destinations like Taipei and Busan.
