On January 11, 1928, the first scheduled air flight out of the Greater Moncton area took place. This flight was carrying mail and passengers to the Magdalen Islands. Two sites were considered for the first air strip. Leger's Corner was chosen however because of more favourable landing conditions. Part of this land was donated by Simon B. LeBlanc of Leger's Corner, a developer, land owner and owner of the LeBlanc general store and post office located on the south corner of the now named streets of Acadie Avenue and Champlain Street.

In 1929, a local private company bought the land at Léger's Corner airstrip and through the years two runways were constructed as well as structures for aircraft maintenance. It was also in 1929 that the Moncton Aero Club was founded, as was the International Airways Flying School. These later became the Moncton Flight College, one of the pre-eminent flight schools in Canada. Also in the same year, the airport expanded its air mail service to include Prince Edward Island and Montreal.

In 1936, Transport Canada and the local government discussed the possibility of the construction of an airport suitable for trans-Canadian routes. The Léger's Corner site was unsuitable for expansion and instead they chose a site in nearby Lakeburn as the new site for the airport. A paved runway and two additional dirt landing strips were constructed

The Greater Moncton Roméo LeBlanc International Airport (YQM) offers a variety of parking facilities to meet your needs. All parking lots operate 24 hours and are security patrolled.

Our parking lots are conveniently located in front of the airport entrance, and no advance reservations are required. Parking rates are determined based on the date and time of your entry and exit, and HST is included.

Hourly $4.00 – per hour beyond the first hour

Accessible Parking Areas

Accessible Greater Moncton Roméo LeBlanc International Airport

Two of these spaces are located indoors in underground parking but require pre-booking and must hold a disability permit. The rate to reserve one of these spots is $125 weekly. If you require assistance with accessible parking or would like to reserve one of the underground spaces, please call the Airport’s Administration office at (506) 856-5444 x6.

Passenger Pick-up and Drop-off

Passengers may be dropped off or picked up at the main doors of the terminal building. Please follow the signs to Departures and Arrivals when driving to the airport.

There is absolutely no parking at our main doors except for designated vehicles such as taxis. Vehicles may not be left unattended. Tickets may be issued to those parked in an unauthorized area.

Cell Phone Parking Lot

This free parking lot is designed for those coming to pick up passengers. Once a passenger arrives, they can call or text their driver to come pick them up at the terminal. We encourage you to use the cell phone parking lot and wait for the passenger to call you in order to minimize the congestion at the terminal building.

The cell phone parking lot is located across the street from the terminal, on Aviation Avenue, next to the Volkswagen and Audi dealerships.

Ground Transportation of Greater Moncton Roméo LeBlanc International Airport

All ground transportation modes are private contracts. There is no public transit to or from the airport at this time.

Hours of Operation Greater Moncton Roméo LeBlanc International Airport.The airport is open and accessible 24 hours a day. Security personnel are always on duty to provide guidance if required. Please note that while access is offered around the clock, services such as retail outlets, the restaurant and vehicle rental and airline ticket counters are not necessarily open.

Taxi ServiceAir Cab and White Cab offers taxi service to and from the Greater Moncton Roméo LeBlanc International Airport. Taxis are located just outside the terminal building in front of the arrival doors. A direct no-cost telephone line is also located inside the main entrance to the terminal building.

To arrange for an accessible taxi service, please contact the taxi provider at least 24 hours in advance.

Washrooms

All washrooms at the Greater Moncton Roméo LeBlanc International Airport are wheelchair accessible.

Wheelchair Service

Assistance can be provided with a wheelchair from the curbside area through the terminal to the check-in counters as well as upon arrival from baggage collection to curbside. If assistance is required, please contact security staff at (506) 856-5429 at least 48 hours prior to your flight.

For assistance from check-in onward, it is important to contact the airline you are traveling with beforehand to let them know that you require special assistance. A ticket agent will be able to provide information on the use of wheelchairs, passenger escort services, transportation within the Airport, and support with checking in, boarding and arriving at your destination.
